Tomy, is a Japanese toy and game manufacturing company founded in 1924 by Eiichiro Tomiyama. The company originally manufactured toy airplanes for the domestic market and began exporting them in the 1950s. Over the decades their toy range expanded and they known for bringing to market toys including Transformers, Palm pets, Pokemon & Furby to name a few. In 2006, Tomy merged with another huge Japanese toy company, Takara becoming TOMY Co. Ltd with the aim of maximising their respective strengths and becoming the world's leading toy manufacturer. Since then, Tomy has further expanded its reach by acquiring several other companies, including RC2 in 2011 (Lamaze), Sega Toys and Smoby. In recent years Tomy has also partnered with Nintendo to produce toys and games based on their popular characters and franchises.
